Your pharmacist, Barry Shapiro graduated from California State University, Long Beach in 1976 with a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Sociology. That same year, Barry’s father Rich Shapiro and Mel Goldfarb went into business together to start Mel-Rich Pharmacy in Santa Ana, Ca. Seeing the benefits of becoming a pharmacist, Barry went back to school and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science degree from the University of the Pacific in 1981. In 1977 Mel left Mel-Rich Pharmacy to open his own pharmacy here in Idyllwild. Barry & Rich worked 20 years together before selling Mel-Rich Pharmacy in 2001. Barry then worked for several pharmacies, including Rite Aid and Walgreens, where he felt that he was a square peg trying to fit in a round hole. After moving to Riverside in 2001, Barry and his wife Linda would come up to visit Mel in Idyllwild and inquire if he had any intentions of selling his pharmacy. He finally did, and Barry and Linda have been extremely pleased to be of service to Idyllwild since JUNE of 2007.
